Installation does not send email to new user

Installation does not send email to new user was created by fermanis
I installed CB 1.1 right after I installed Joomla 1.5.5
I create a test user but it never recieves the email for verification. I am running the server and have sendmail enabled. I put valid email addresses for the admin of the site. It is running on my linux box and I am not using a hosted site.
I am rather new to Joomla and would appreciate the help.
