I'm having a very similar problem although the error message I am getting is this:

User not found. You cannot save a ". Only higher level users have this power.

This happens if I try to change a users email address in the backend. I have the AJAX checking turned off. I know the email address that I am trying to input is a good email address too. I have not tried the fix that is mentioned above as I do not want to change core files.

CB 1.2 RC3

I'm interested in the fix for the Ajax Email checker bug/feature. Is there a way to disable this in RC3 -- I didn't want to apply the fix posted here, since it was for RC2. Will this fix work for RC3 as well?

Thanks!

Hi All,

I've just upgraded to CB 1.2 RC4, and I'm still experiencing this issue (i.e. the ajax email checker returns "Could not check this email: Please double-check: Needed for Confirmation").

While this thread is titled "Wont Disable", this tread is the best I can find, related to this issue. It seems when we enter an invalid email address, the ajax checker identifies that the address does not accept email, however for valid addresses and addresses that are already in the database, the ajax checker is returning the "Could not check" error message.

We have a Joomla! 1.5.8 site, and we would very much like to utilize the CB Ajax Email validation.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Does this have to do with server settings? It seems strange to me that this wouldn't be fixed in RC4, so I'm wondering if the issue isn't outside CB.

Thanks so much!

Caleb

I would also like to mention that I went to tools and did database checks and everything was green....

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thankyou.

Has this problem been resolved? I am having the same problem with my site - the AJax email checker won't turn off in the back-end, even though it is set to NO. So when anyone registers in the front-end, they don't receive a confirmation email, and the administrator doesn't receive a notification email. This only happens with certain email accounts like @sbcglobal.net.

Same problem here. This is a show stopper to me. We are trying to use email as a unique identifier. And we have legacy members that we imported into the new website. We need this part to work in order to track registration. But this AJAX checker doesn't check for email address already in the system as advertise.

Any solution on this would be helpful. Anyone using CB 1.2 RC4 without this issue?

We used: Joomla 1.5.8 and CB 1.2 RC3

We found the following:

email with @yahoo.com

will get this error:
Could not check this email:
Please double-check: Needed for confirmation.

email with

@sbcglobal.net
@gmail.com
@hotmail.com

will get this error:
This address does not accept email: Needed for confirmation.
