If you leave the password blank and save the profile, the password will be left untouched.

Boy, I couldn't figure out what the initial question was!
Thanks for helping out on the forums. Of course this is no bug!

Instead I have a similar problem but I cannot edit any user because it always loads the user detail with unmatched passwords (***** in one field and [blank] in the other field)

Whenever I edit a user via CB user manager here is what I get:

ADMIN USER

Name: username (OK)
User Name: mysql_db (I get the name of the Mysql DB )
Email: email@xx.com (OK)
Password: *******
Verify password: [blank]

What the mysql_Db name is doing in there and why one pw has *** and the other is blank I have no idea.

This happened to me in RC1 under Mambo 4.53 as well.
Now I have a clean joomla install and it's happening again.
I will say that I have other components installed so maybe another component is messing with this?

USER ADMIN PROFILE
I get the same problem when a user edits their profile.
They can never update it because same fields are prepopulated as above.

I cannot release CB into my community because no one can edit their PW.

This is a browser problem which auto-fills your fields.

Turn off auto-filling and auto-login or check with another browser.
