Google Maps Geocoder inaccurate

I've noticed the Geocoding (GoogleMaps) seems to GREATLY round off/approximate coordinates. This results in things being a long ways from where they should be.

I first noticed that users were showing up in the right State, but not the right city.

Then I tried manually entering coordinates on my profile and I noticed they were changed automatically. Spooky.

For example, I entered: -97.73077011108398 and updated. The coordinate appeared as -96.7467.

Actually, it's not rounding off the numbers so much as skewing them a bit.

Any thoughts?

Right now the ability to turn off automatic geocoding is not available in the geocoding plugin. The reason for the inaccuracy could be that the fields you are using aren't in the format the geocoder is looking for. If that is the case then the geocoder uses hostip.info, which just geocodes you based on your IP address.

What format for the fields does the geocoder need?

I do have noticed the same stuff.
Is it possible not to install the geocoder plugin, but create manually the two lat/long fields for Google Maps component?
It would be great for those who are not interrested by geocoder but exact coordinates.
