Is it possible to set uddeIM to auto refresh say every 10 mins to check for new messages?

When you mean the module not the component then the answer is no.
The module shows a new message whenever the page is refreshed.
When someone likes to do maintain a AJAX module, he is free to do so (I will implement the corresponding server part is necessary).
