The username verification followed up to now Joomla's own rules.
We will thighten them a little in following CB 1.0.2 release, as Joomla 1.0.11 and 1.5 beta already did.
But I managed to register a user in Joomla 1.0.11 core registration with username " . ", so I guess that Joomla itself also needs some tightening. Will discuss that with Joomla core team.
P.s. please put back a normal username, as " " usernames are not tolerated on this site
