upgrading was created by sublimemovement
hi i was trying to upgrade from 1.2 to 1.2.1 (Obliviously) and i completely botched my whole site. fortunately i followed the most important instruction of backing up my site. My question: Is there a more noob friendly set of instructions available? I am extremely new to joomla and even more new to CB. things needed most are what files to back up and how to uninstall CB 1.2. thanks in advance.

The README-UPGRADE.txt that comes in the installation packet should be sufficient to show you which files to back up and exactly how to install the component and modules. Did you follow this carefully the first time you tried the install? Have you utilized any hacks or user level access control extensions? Why do you think your site is now "botched"? See my signature for more information to include.
:)

The Documentation Subscription gives you even more information to make the most of CB 1.2.

thanks for the suggestion but i was reading the "README-UPGRADE.txt" but on step 2
"2) Make sure you have all extra CB plugin packages used on your site (you will need these these later in the process).
Unistall CB component."

the unistall CB component is not clear as i have no "CB component".

point being that i need clearer uninstall instructions.
thanks

Sorry

Use Joomla's Install/Uninstall and then choose component. If you don't see com_comprofiler listed there, you may have to delete the directories manually using your hosting services File Browser or using FTP: /components/com_comprofiler and administrator/components/com_comprofiler.

i used Joomla's Install/Uninstall uninstalled what i thought was the correct component. tried to install the 1.2.1 and got errors i have restored my site and was just wondering if there were more in depth upgrade instructions because the ones in the readme are not clear for a beginner user. at least not to me because i have no "CB component" in any of the tabs for uninstall.
I do have a "comprofiler" which i uninstalled because it was the only component with version 1.2 and the author "Beat and JoomlaJoe" but is that the right one? do i need to uninstall the modules as well or do i leave those. the readme does not state that. The readme is very vague as far as the unstall is concerned.

If you feel it is vague, you can make any suggestions in the documentation part of the forum, however since it was comprofiler you installed I guess it was assumed people would know that's what needs to be uninstalled... given some Joomla knowledge is expected to make that assumption.
