If there is no release, why not just take CBE code and modify it to be a plugin?

What everyone can do is to start a little fundraiser and then hire a developer to do this.

This was done with advanced search component. To hire developers you can use either the forums or www.joomlancers.com

Adapting the profilebook from CBE would propably be like a 2 hour job to reach alpha stage, if the person knows cb api.
