We use CBSubs to manage members of an association (and give them access to special content on the site). Some members lapsed a year -- did not join in 2011 but want to rejoin in 2012. They were deactivated at end of Calendar Year 2010 and so

1. Cannot login anymore -- Admin has to go activate them and take check payment
2. When we activate them on backend, we have to "upgrade" to year they missed and then "upgrade" to 2012, so they get TWO activation/confirmation emails.

How can we avoid this, so that:

1. They can login (without our intervention) and pick the next year of membership? 2012
2. If we activate them on backend they get only ONE activation message?

Finally, note: We offer FREE lifetime membership after they pay for 10 straight years. Currently the system doe snot track these "skippers" and we must be able to see that they lapsed and are not eligible.
