[SOLVED] File upload field - Masked filename breaks sometimes

We are using the File field type to upload resumes/cvs.

You kindly helped me to use Auto Actions (see my previous posts) to rename the uploaded file to this format

firstname_lastname_userid.filetype

example

Jonathan_Appleton_1234.pdf

But when you view profiles or user lists I can see you are masking the real filenames for security purposes iguess which is great but how is this new display filename controlled please as the above becomes something like j.pdf or ja.pdf and for each person the name length varies

jon.pdf
ja.pdf
terry.doc

When you download the files they have these shorter names as well.

and Ive just spotted one getting displays as simply .docx and when you download that file it downloads as .docx and you cant open it until you rename the file.

So is there any way to control these display names for files and also when they are downloaded?

I've just spotted the display filename field in the fields parameters and wondered what this does please?

Ahhh this is beautiful and it works....

Just put this in the filename field

[lastname]_[firstname]

and it gives you appleton_jonathan.pdf (auto adds on the filetype suffix) and the display and downloaded file use this new name
