Import csv file with new users - CSV template

2 years 6 months ago #326710 by abqmgweb
I will need to upload about 60 new users to my site in the near future. I found this post: www.joomlapolis.com/documentation/278-community-builder/operations-guide/18837-importing-users that says: "The import file CSV format is the same as the export file CSV format. You should first use the Exporting Users feature to get the file format for your website and use it as a template to create your import file." I have searched and searched for more info than this one sentence, but nothing comes up.

I exported my existing CB users and I got a table with a column for EVERY USER - so from col BD to col OJ there is no data, only a header with a user name at the top with "cb_firstnamelastname" - one for EVERY USER on the site. I.e, cb_janedoe, cb_johnsmith, etc. for 340+ columns (!).

So my question is: do I need to include ALL those columns in my csv import file?

[Any other helpful tips on importing would be appreciated. Like where can I find info on how to autogenerate user names and passwords?]

Thanks,
Corinne

No, technically only core Joomla fields are required. So Name, Username, and Email which are all required by Joomla to create a user. Password can be excluded and it will generate a password for them.
