Hide field without unpublishing

Hide field without unpublishing was created by Backstein
Good evening.
I created a field (cb_custom_status) displaying either [onlinestatus] or [lastvisitdate] depending on the status of the member.
I now want to show this field instead of the onlinestatus AND lastvisitdate on the profile.
The problem is if I choose
Show on Profile: no for onlinestatus/lastvisitdate
The onlinestatus/lastvisitdate inside my new field gets hidden aswell. Of course the same happens if I unpublish it.
Any ideas how to solve this?

Suggest reviewing the CB Primer Book regarding tab positions, specifically those hidden from profile.

For people facing the same issue:
1. Create new TAB -> choose one of the "not displayed on profile X"-positions
2. add fields you wish to hide to this TAB
