My query returns 2 columns.
I have entered column a as value column and column b as label column.
Now I would like to use [value] and [label] as substitions to control the layout.
However this does not work. While [value] returns the correct output value, [label] does not. In fact it does not return any value.
However I need [label] for the registration and [value] for the display. How can I make this work without additional fields or auto actions?

You mean the parameters under Layouts? That is not query field specific. You can't substitute in the field label there as it has nothing to do with the form row output, but only the value output. When using layouts the [value] is the final computed value of a field. This allows you to surround it with HTML, substitution if tags, or even replace it entirely with substitutions.
