I've lost the place where I can set the default for item privacy in a CB Gallery Field..

It is required that the CB Gallery field itself remains to "Forced privacy control" and Edit Display Display set to "Public".

I need to let the user the freedom to exactly decide upon whom to disclose an item case by case, on demand and perhaps for a limited time. This is handled thru a number of connection types.
In this context it would be preferable to have set items to "private" per default.

CB Gallery privacy on a per item basis is controlled by the "CB Gallery - Privacy - Edit", "CB Gallery - Privacy - Save", and "CB Gallery - Privacy - Authorized" system actions. To change the default privacy rule you need to either change it globally or make a copy of those system actions, unpublish the system actions, then change the default in your copy. In a future release this will all just be moved to be a part of CB Gallery instead of being in CB Auto Actions.
