Hiya!
I figured out how to display the description outside of a tooltip (yay me!). The one thing I'm having trouble with is placing the description of an item above the checkbox line.
The application I'm building is basically a task completion list. I need the checkbox to be underneath, and preferably floating to the right.

You should be able to use the layout parameters for that. Edit your checkbox field then under Parameters > Layout adjust the profile and and registration layouts with the following.
