[SOLVED] Modify CB code was created by mportner
Newbie question... can I modify the code w/o breaking the license agreement? I want to customize some headings, etc. to fit my application.

Community Builder and anything you download as part of your Professional membership is GPL v2 license.

This means you can modify it as you wish (just do not remove and copyright or credit notices in code).

However, you should try and avoid such hacks as it will cause you problems when you try to upgrade to new versions.

Makes sense. So, supposedly there is a way that I can modify groupjive so that I can customize the headings, text, etc. to fit my application I installed the language english plugin, but I can't figure out how to use it. Do I have to modify code to get the strings customized?

All GJ text strings are language strings. Once the English language plugin is installed you can edit all of those strings at the below.

components/com_comprofiler/plugin/language/cbgroupjiveen-gb/

In addition to that all of GJs frontend is template based so you're free to edit the files in the below or copy them into a new template and edit them (recommended).

components/com_comprofiler/plugin/user/plug_cbgroupjive/templates/

Kyle, thx.

So, if I edit the strings in

components/com_comprofiler/plugin/language/cbgroupjiveen-gb/

will future releases of GJ wipe out my changes? Should/can I do the same with strings as I do with what you suggest to do with templates (copy and edit my own)?

If you re-install the English language package included with GJ, yes.

Should/can I do the same with strings as I do with what you suggest to do with templates (copy and edit my own)?

You can create your own language plugin if you want. Information on how to do this can be found below.

You can edit the template files however you please. The template system is drop-in based. For example you can copy the default template folder and name it default_edited then select it in GJ backend and edit it however you please.
