Moving a Child Plan from one Parent Plan to Another

9 years 1 month ago #261699 by aamet
What is the impact of changing a Child Plan to a different Parent?

e.g.

From

PARENT 1
CHILD A
CHILD B
PARENT 2
CHILD C

to:

PARENT 1
CHILD A
CHILD B
CHILD C

We wish to merge two parent plans. Both Parents are Free, and all Child Plans are paid for. No permissions or access levels will be changed, just the Parent Membership.

Come on chaps. Surely this is a straightforward question to answer. I need to do this on a live site, but do not know what the impact is of doing this in relation to existing memberships of the plan being moved. New members presumably would be fine.

I do not recommend modifying plans beyond the integration parameters after users have already subscribed. It's best to copy the plan, make your changes, then disallow new subscriptions and renewals to your old plan

Changing parent may cause no issues or it could break renewals when it's looking for the parent plan that is no longer relevant to the subscription. Note the parent plan is stored with the subscription in _cbsubs_subscriptions, which you may have to adjust for existing subscriptions to avoid them from breaking.

OK! So is that table definitely the only reference area I would need to manually update? If so I will update them manually as in this case there are only 140 members.

The problem with old plans it they result in a big clutter and over time will become more an more unmanageable.

It would be nice to have a pruning facility for updating member records to remove old expired plans. Historical records only need to be retained for fixed periods of time. Can this be considered as an enhancement request?

Ideally a simple archiving feature would work to help solve the clutter issue as you'd just archive the old plans. This way they still exist, but you don't have to deal with seeing them unless you filter to the archived entries. At any rate yes something is planned to help with this.
