GJ 3.0.1 - Is there a nice way to add extra fields to groups?

8 years 3 months ago #276136 by NicoFaaij
Hi,

Is there a nice way to add extra general fields to groups? Now you basically only have "Name" and "Description". In the old GJ I had added custom php code and database columns to the GJ-source myself but is there another cleaner way to add extra fields to GJ, just like we are used to in CB?

I like the mini view of the groups in a list, with the "!" for the group description at a mouse=over. But when a group is opened there is space enough and it would be nice if the description is fully shown just like the old version of GJ. Is that possible?

Thanks in advance,
Nico

You need to either make a new GJ integration to add them like the other integrations do or you'll have to modify core GJ. There is no interface for adding new fields and one isn't planned in the foreseeable future.

The description display can be altered by altering GJs template files. The defaults can be found below.

/components/com_comprofiler/plugin/user/plug_cbgroupjive/templates/default

Make a copy of the default template folder and rename to whatever you like. Next delete all the files in your copy that you don't want to change. Now within GJ > Configuration > Parameters > General you can select your new template. Next adjust the files in your template folder as needed.

Thanks for the confirmation. I already build some GJ intergrations, but that results in extra tabs, while I want to add these fields in the header and create new group form. So I will continue to modify core GJ.

Thanks for you good work and have a nice weekend,
Nico

You don't need to modify core GJ for their display. You can copy the default template folder, rename it, delete anything you don't want to edit, then select it as your template in GJ > Configuration > Parameters > General.

For the new fields you'd use an integration for that. See the existing GJ integrations on how to do this as it's all done through triggers.

Please see the GJ Primer Book. It has an example of a template override.
