Unwanted switch to English after login

6 years 7 months ago #297879 by rkreijveld
Unwanted switch to English after login was created by rkreijveld
We are working on a multilingual website (English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish and Chinese).
For each language we have dedicated mainmenu. So we have an English mainmenu, a Dutch mainmenu etc.
Every menu has a CB login option. That works fine, the login is nicely shown in the chosen language.

The problem is after the login. After a succesfull login, the next page shown is always the English profile page.
In every mainmenu we have a profile option. In every menu this is a menu item alias that is linked to the profile page in the CB menu.
So after login in any language the English profile page is shown, but we can use the language select to show the profile in the desired language.

How can we setup the login process so that the profile is shown in the selected language? So when you login via the Dutch menu, you go to the Dutch profile page, when you login via the German, you go to the German profile page etc.

After a user logs in the language of the site switches to whatever language the user has set for their account. If it's set to default then it'll use whatever the Default language is. I don't think Joomla persists the language switcher selection after login. They should be able to change their accounts language by editing their profile and adjusting it there.

Okay, so I think I could implement this workaround:
Create a login page (article) per language that holds a login module for each language.
Because in the module I can set a redirect link after login, and than redirect to the profile page per language?

You should already have a login page or module per language if you're setting up multilingual site. In which case yes you can add the language directly to the login redirect parameter. Example as follows for the login redirects.

index.php?option=com_comprofiler&view=userprofile&Itemid=MENU_ID_HERE

Replace MENU_ID_HERE with the profile menu item of that corresponding language. You shouldn't need to directly supply the language tag in the URL. Also always supply non-SEF URLs when adding URLs to redirect parameters.

Hi Kyle,

I added the CMS user parameters to the profile. Then I logged in as a community user and set the Frontend language to Netherlands.

Then I logged out. I set the website language to Dutch and logged in. But still after the login I am taken to the English profile page...
How is that possible then?

Are you redirecting them to the English profile menu item? Please see my reply above regarding multiple login modules with the appropriate login redirects. You should have 1 login module per language with their login redirects as provided above with the menu id for the language of the module.
