Does CB encrypt login and registration info or should I use SSL instead?

Password is a 1 way encryption, it can't be reversed. As for everything else, no there is no encryption. If you're meaning does it encrypt data during transmission of course not at least not without SSL.

I am trying to avoid paying for SSL.

Can this extension help me encrypt login info?

Has any one had experience dealing with this extension when it comes to CB compatibility?

No idea. I've no experience with such an extension. I also do not recommend trying to substitute an extension for SSL.
