Ok, I considered Blog output to be 'normal' Joomla output.
It worked in the previous version of Joomla. I've tried using the com_content.category, so far I don't see any adverse effects.

My best guess is 3.7.0 changed the context for that view if it previously worked. Doesn't make sense for the context to be com_content.category for those article blocks. If anything it should be com_content.blog or something of the sort.
