Don't know what to tell you. Have tested on 3 different domains on 3 different servers and confirmed working fine. Are you downloading on a MAC perhaps? Safari on MAC will unpack and repack archives with a _MACOSX folder placed inside them and will cause problems. Please PM backend login credentials and will take a look.

Nick,

Sorry for the much delayed response - crazy week at work last week!

I'm starting again with a fresh download of everything right now and see what happens. If it still exhibits the same behavior, I'll send you the credentials over and sincerely appreciate you taking a look. I'll enable the legacy plugin if needed to get the site up and running, but since I know as well as all of you it shouldn't be necessary, that's kind of irking me and I can't let it go ;-)

Got your PM, thanks ...

Including relevant information from PM for further discussion:

I installed 1.5.22 directly downloaded from joomla.org, and CB 1.4 directly from the public downloads directory of Joomlapolis.

Unpacked both and moved under the root of my website. Chown'ed to nobody:apache and chmod'ed g+w * to make the site as open as possible and compatible with my apache daemon settings.

root directory for the site is /var/www/html/mypack58.org/ and each of the CB modules/component live in the following directories:

/var/www/html/XXXX/tmp/com_comprofiler/
/var/www/html/XXXX/tmp/mod_cblogin/
/var/www/html/XXXX/tmp/mod_comprofilerModertor/
/var/www/html/XXXX/tmp/mod_comprofilerOnline/

All site settings are 100% default. com_comprofiler installed without any issue; mod_cblogin gives the "need legacy plugin" error.

Site is XXXX - please feel free to take a look and poke around and let me know if you spot anything that could be causing this behavior.

Ha!

It looks like you installed from unzipped packages in this tmp folder.

I guess by unzipping the modules Joomla does not use the Joomla 1.5 xml as it does when installed directly from the zip package.

I will try and replicate this issue. However, for now you should install all modules without uploading first to your server tmp folder. Just select the package from your local storage and install.

That's it - I've replicated it several times this morning, and so long as I install from local storage (which, by the way, I've *never* done in any Joomla! implementations before, so this is not something I would have gotten to the bottom of by myself) it works fine.

Thank you very much for getting to the bottom of a rather annoying issue ;-)
