You confirmed it saves in backend user edit, but does it save in frontend user edit. Be sure you're testing with the same user that is trying to ajax edit. The ajax edit is entirely checking frontend profile edit. So backend edit is not relevant to this test.

Do you have a large amount of fields? Are you conditioning the field with CB Conditional?

In case duplicate menu items might have been causing the problem, I unpublished all but the main one. No impact.
Also tried giving my registered members edit permissions directly through the global config options. Also no impact.
I'm running out of ideas and *anything* you could suggest would be a help.

Yes, I am testing with the same user account. Saves reliably on back end, but ajax save does not work.
I have 42 active fields, and I use both conditionals (4 fields conditional on a checkbox choice) and profile privacy controls (6 fields).

Have reviewed your install and has nothing to do with CB Core Fields Ajax (which is not installed). You have something installed that's intercepting the POST. I've no idea what it is.

You'll need to disable 3rd party Joomla extensions 1 by 1 until the issue resolves to find the culprit. It does not appear to be any installed CB plugins causing it. Start with 3rd party Joomla system plugins as that's almost always the culprit. If none fixes it then repeat with 3rd party Joomla User plugins.
