If you set the users alias column to something that isn't URL safe it will be converted to URL safe and prefixed with their userid. CB Auto Actions and its Field action will be updated to do the URL safe conversion on storage like the Profile URL field does so that won't happen and you'll be able to use CB Auto Actions to set customized profile urls on a users behalf. Until then you may end up with some profile urls prefixed with user id if you choose to start using CB Auto Actions for this now depending on what you set them to.

Thank you for explaining that.

I can probably wait for CB 2.1 as by then it will be fully tested

All of our members profiles are non public anyway (only visible to other members)

So they don't get bookmarked and don't mind userids being added to urls.... just keen to hide usernames.
