Migrating to Joomla 1.7

I wonder if we should wait for J2.5 - this doesn't seem like something we want to tackle twice in as many years.

Meanwhile, we've decided to stick with J1.5 for the time being.

J2.5 won't require any special migration from J1.7, but while we're on the topic CB doesn't work on J2.5 as for some reason J2.5 is rendering backend on frontend causing function/class already defined conflicts. Perhaps when a stable build is out this will be resolve as I only tested from their SVN snapshot of J2.5.

Hi folks,

I'm not sure why you had so many problems. We have migrated several large CB sites and it has happened seamlessly.

JUpgrade migrates all the users - only problem we've had is relating to DB prefixes which I posted about in this forum.

Get your 1.5.x site up to the latest version of CB, migrate, install that same version of CB in 1.7, and bob's your uncle :) At least that was our experience.

PS. From what I understand it is a one click upgrade to 2.5 from 1.7.x - given that 2.5 is a stable release I wouldn't expect to see massive changes from the latest 1.7.x if they're aiming for stability.

Please do not click this one-click upgrade unless you are sure that all third party extensions work on new 2.5 to be released joomla.

Yep, we only upgrade once we've tested all the extensions - since 1.7 was released we've only been using extensions which are 1.7.x compatible with clear paths toward upgrading for 2.5 when it's released :)
