We have tried the image button on the editors toolbar but it needs an image url and we can not upload. Is it possible to upload pictures from your local hardisk?

No, not with TinyMCE that is. JCE for example will let you as it has an advanced image button for its editor toolbar that allows uploads.

Using JCE? It's a button on the toolbar. You probably need to configure JCE from backend to have the button on there and to allow uploads from registered users. It's not really safe to allow your registered users direct upload access to your sites root image folder.
