This is weird:

I uninstall CB Activity, and reinstall. Then, to be sure, I also clear & purge the cache in Joomla.
And then everything works again: both Activity and GroupJive.

Now going to try and update the live site.

Update:

On my live site, the update of GroupJive did not cause any issues, it just continued to work normally.
Updating CB Activity did cause the same problem, but uninstalling CB Activity and reinstalling fixed it there too.

So for as far as I can see, everything seems to be in working order.

I believe I found why CB Activity wasn't showing up at first: the "tab" in tab management was probably disabled, and the new install of the plugin probably enabled it by default again, making the activity wall appear again.

For the CB Activity problem:
Yes, the menu item is created exactly like that. Just to be sure, I created a new menu item that same way again, but it still sends me back to the home page. When I try it, it does say this:

This is due to the below bug.

forge.joomlapolis.com/issues/6570

The Recent Activity page can't be accessed if the Activity tab isn't published. This is due to an access check on that tab. This will be fixed in a nightly build and next bug fix release. My Activity will always require the Activity tab be accessible as it's basically just rendering that same stream.

Thanks for the response.

I have enabled the Activity tab and put it in the position "not shown on profile", which also does the trick. I just didn't think about checking whether the tab was published before or not, because I didn't know this was required. But once I figured it out, the problem was solved :)

It wasn't originally required, but it is now for all profile assets. So for example the Recent Activity page basically has an asset of "profile.USER_ID,all". This means the primary asset for the stream is "profile.USER_ID" resulting in the access checks being done against the tab. This is fixed for next bug release and nightly where the "all" usage will ignore that tab access check for display of the Recent Activity stream, but it will still be checked for create access permissions.
