If having logic on non exclusive plans is not possible, can you tell me how to change the error message into something more descriptive and friendly?

Should be a language string within your CBSubs language files. Please see your CBSubs language files at the below location.

/components/com_comprofiler/plugin/language/cbpaidsubscriptions-en-gb/language.php

That file doesn't exist. The closest is in the directory components/com_comprofiler/plugin/language/default_language/cbteamplugins_language.php

Is this something I need to install?

You'll need to install the CBSubs English language plugin included with your CBSubs package then. Once done you'll be able to modify any of CBSubs language strings.

This is working with limited success.

The error message is: "Sorry, Registration is enabled, free registrations are not allowed, but no subscription plan is available for registration. Please contact site administrator."

I found the sentence "Registration is enabled, free registrations are not allowed, but no subscription plan is available for registration" and changed it to "free registrations are not allowed, please select a membership plan." This works, but leaves the "Sorry," and the "Please contact site administrator."

Then I searched and found "Sorry, %s. Please contact site administrator" and changed it to "Sorry, %s." This does NOT work. The "Please contact site administrator" is still showing.

I am changing the wording after the "=>", by the way.

Any suggestions?

I've checked the source and it's using the below two language strings only.

"Registration is enabled, free registrations are not allowed, but no subscription plan is available for registration"	=>	"Registration is enabled, free registrations are not allowed, but no subscription plan is available for registration",

"Sorry, %s. Please contact site administrator"	=>	"Sorry, %s. Please contact site administrator",

Maybe you have a second occurrence of the below in your default CB language files or in some other language file?

"Sorry, %s. Please contact site administrator"	=>	"Sorry, %s. Please contact site administrator",
