I was able to duplicate on your installation with the below steps.
  1. Register on Frontend w/ subscription that changes usergroup
  2. Login
  3. Change password from profile edit
  4. Logout
  5. Attempt to login with new password (old password will also fail)

I've created a bug ticket to further track your issue. I apologize for the inconvenience.

weird isn't it? I'm sorry for the inconvenience. It seems like my last two posts were bug reports. I got out of QA a while ago because developers started hating me. Now I'm just an activist :-)

Can you please retest after having removed the incubator profile logger plugin?

Ok, looks like it was the profile update logger plugin.
I have installed new version (released on incubator forge) and have tested it.
Please confirm.

yes, when I disable it all seems good. I have not been able to get the latest version of the plugin as I can't get to the incubator forge. (502 error) I will try later however. Thank you.

There was a problem with the server, we've restarted the forge server; please try again.
