A new major stable release of CB Privacy is now available! This release includes several performance improvements, API improvements, and reliability fixes throughout. Check out the details below!

First and foremost this is a major release. This means Joomla 3.x support has been discontinued in this release. Joomla 4.x being the new minimum. However recommended minimum is Joomla 5.x, but if possible I would recommend using Joomla 6.x.

Several API calls have been changed as they were moved to more optimized namespaced classes instead of a super global namespaced class. So if you've a custom implementation calling CB Privacy API please be sure to review your implementation carefully. The Privacy class has also been completely overhauled to be effectively a single source of truth for generating privacy controls, displaying them, and even saving them. This no longer pipes through the component vew.

The final deprecation is the Ajax saving behavior. This was rarely used and didn't work in most locations so it has been completely removed. Please be sure if you were using this from CB Auto Actions that you adjust your usage accordingly as you'll now need to be sure to have an auto action trigger the save process.

As for what has improved it's now possible to apply some degree of query privacy filtering directly to userlists. This allows users to be filtered out before they display. Currently this is mostly limited to profiles marked Private or Moderator access only. This is default disabled due to the potential performance impact it can have. You'll find a new set of parameters below that now lets you more specifically toggle userlist privacy checking as well.

Privacy indicators have been added to CB Activity and CB Gallery when viewing your own posts or media. This gives you an at-a-glance look at post or media visibility.

As you can see both have icons indicating a public privacy rule. These all have rule specific icons so that can be easily overridden from CSS using their respective CSS classes. Hovering them will also tell you what privacy setting the icon represents.

Internally there has been a substantial amount of API improvements to drastically speed up a lot of the privacy checking behavior along with aggressive caching behavior to vastly speed up re-checks of privacy rules. The entire codebase is also now strictly typed for better reliability.

CB Activity, CB Gallery, and CB Auto Actions stable releases are also now available for compatibility with CB Privacy 8.0.0. Please be sure to UPDATE those as well if you're using their CB Privacy features.

We've reached a rather stable point in CB Privacy and I hope we can continue to offer you the best profile privacy solution available as we continue forward. For a full list of changes check out the change log below.
