Separate users into 5 teams

Hi,
I'm a newbie to CB and have only used it a few times with basic configuration but nothing advanced. I know that CB can do this, I'm not sure how.
I need to create 5 different teams.
Admin will assign the teams and send teams different emails. I think this can be done with the list management.
They all need to have the same permissions as a registered user and only have access to edit their profile.
I looked at some of the plugins like CBsubs but it seems a bit much for what I am doing. The teams do not have different access levels and there are no subscriptions or payments needed.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like something GroupJive could accomplish, have you tried such a solution? Userlists would likely also work if you're just wanting a list of members. You'd of course need a field to select what team a user belongs to so you may filter your userlists by said field.
