There is also Datso Gallery that is very similar to Pony. I believe EricFoster has release a tab plugin for this one as well.

So far the only downside I have with pony is that it doesn't allow your members to create their own categories in the gallery.

Depending on how advanced of a gallery you need is usually the determining factor.
