Using Joomla 1.5.22 and Community Builder 1.3.1

Novice...

I need to be able to search by the last name field of my users and only display those names that match the criteria. I can't use the traditional Joomla 1.5x search form because that only searches on contacts and I would have to manually add each user to a contact form in admin. (unless there's an automatic way?) which is too onerous.

As an alternative I've created a user list of registered users, which satisfactorily searches as required, however it also displays all members of that user list (or at least up to the number specified in CB config user list admin). I need to find a way of either suppressing the list all function and the automatic listing of all users in the user list or another way of creating a search that will only display those users matching the search criteria.
