I am managing a club website and would like to offer a general guest log-in for member not having a profile yet. Unfortunately, some new members wanting to creating their profile are using the guest log-in to edit their own information, so the guest log-in is lost all the time. Is there a way to protect a specific registered user profile and make it impossible to anyone except the administrator to edit it?

There is a protect field plugin available in the download section www.joomlapolis.com/component/option,com_docman/task,doc_download/gid,37/
which I feel could serve your purpose. But be careful it is still in beta stage.

Just rename the protectfields.xml to protectFields.xml (capital F)...
