Dropdown select or radio button for plan length?

I'm looking for a simpler way of letting customers choose a plan length.
Use case; I want to offer customers 1, 3, 6, 9, or 12 month subscription options. In all cases, it comes down to the *same* price per month, they just get to control how often their credit card or PayPal is billed.

Currently, as far as I know you'd have to set it up like this;

  • 1 month (within this, Plan One, Plan Two, Etc)
  • 3 months (within this, Plan One, Plan Two, Etc)
  • 6 months (within this, Plan One, Plan Two, Etc)
  • 9 months (within this, Plan One, Plan Two, Etc)
  • 12 months (within this, Plan One, Plan Two, Etc)

There'd be a bunch of copying of plans involved, and updating them would be a nightmare.
Another approach might be;
  • Plan One
  • 1 month
  • 3 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months
  • Plan Two
    • 1 month
    • 3 months
    • 6 months
    • 9 months
    • 12 months
  • Etc
    • 1 month
    • 3 months
    • 6 months
    • 9 months
    • 12 months

    Either way is a pain to set up and manage. I would REALLY like to see an option like this;

    A subscription plan where the subscription duration is in months, but the NUMBER of months is left up to the customer by letting them choose 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, from a dropdown menu or radio buttons of some sort. In other words, is it possible to make the number of months into a variable, maybe even a CB field in their profile? And if so, what do you think the effort involved would be? I think it could greatly simplify the plan setup compared to how it is now. In my particular use case, the pricing *per month* is the same no matter what plan they choose ... $20 a month, or $60 every 3 months, or $120 every 6 months, etc.

    In other scenarios there might be different pricing for different periods.

    Thoughts, anyone?
