Sorry if this has been answered before, i have tried searching but cant find an answer.

When the search results are displayed, it displays the users name, is there a way to change it say so it displays the username?

well, you can customize the output of the search in the backend.
You build your own "userlist" with a complete board. Go to Menu > components > CB > User List.

May you begin with the 1st user list.
