It didn't make it into CB 1.1 and won't make it either to CB 1.2 for a simple reason: you don't want the original uploaded image file on your website, if it is a maliciously crafted image file, as some browsers and OSes of users can be compromised due to bugs in the image uncompression software.
As a matter of fact, CB 1.1 and 1.2 do by default even resample the normal picture even if it's in the right dimensions, to exclude this sort of attacks.
Resizing them on your webserver, with your up-to-date and trusted software excludes the crafting staying in place.
If you want to have animations staying, best is to use ImageMagic (maybe you can ask your hoster to install it for you, or to give you the path to the program ?).
