after updating from joomla 1.0.9 to 1.0.10 (thought not the official english version but a localized russian patch version of PARANOIA) noticed that all the avatars of the registered users disseapered somehow. No idea what caused it, but when profiles is shown in the place where the avatar was located, now only a silly NO IMAGE sign. Have checked the db - the actual avatar file name are still in comrofiles table residing.

This is true I have the same issue....on 3 sites....(ahhh - pulls hair out as forum and inbox overflow)

Same problem here.
When users update their image, a thumbnail of the picture is no longer created. The original picture is there though.

This seems to have happend after upgrading to 1.0.10

Mine will not upload and the old has gone into a puff of smoke........

The picture that is uploaded by the member is visible in their profile. The thumbnail url and name are there as well.. The thumbnail seems to be missing.
