I'm currently in an unfortunate situation where my ISP (which I, unfortunately, am unable to change) demands that I only use Joomla 1.0.10 which seems to be incompatible with the currently available versions of CB.

Where can I get legacy releases which could be backward compatible with Joomla 1.0.10?

i suggest that you change host...
a host that forces you to run an old joomla version isnt a host..

Very well. I came to this conclusion because the installation of CB fails rather spectacularly at every SQL command due to db schema incompatibility. I also thought to have read this in the README. Unfortunately I don't have the output with me right now, but inserting sample data gives
