[SOLVED] No Captcha image or sound

Ok, found the problem (in my case...)

In an effort to step up security on my site, I followed the advice as outlined in the following article:

help.joomla.org/component/option,com_easyfaq/task,view/id,56/Itemid,268/

Reinstated configuration.php to docroot, problem solved.

The site works with this config but CB/Captcha doesn't like it for some reason. A wild guess it's a hard coded path issue?

ps. Nick, I did send you the PM. Not sure why u didn't receive it...

I used the expert upgrading way from the readme and it seems I had an obsolete Captcha plug-in. After isntalling the newest one all is fine again.

Same issue as others. Pic not display so we get the red x with the alt text. Also no sound.

Interesting part is: if I try to access /components/com_comprofiler/plugin/user/plug_cbcaptcha/captchaindex.php directly with permission as 755, I get the message "invalid session" as expected. If I try to access this same file with permissions set as 775, I get an internal server 500 error. I host with Bluehost.

I checked there KB, and if we are using a symlink, this could be the problem?

helpdesk.bluehost.com/kb/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=295

We do not allow symlinking PHP files on our server, as this could cause security issues. There is not a way around this unfortunately, even if you parse HTML as application/x-httpd-php. You will be able to symlink to other files and folders, only php should give you the error.

Joomla 1.5.7
CB 1.2 RC3
CB Captcha 2.2.1 (installed from plug_cbcaptcha_2.2_RC2.zip)
plugin\user\plug_cbcaptcha and all sub-folders files set to 775
Session Control set to none
mod_rewrite and SEF is on, also using sh404SEF (Tried removing all of this with no improvement)

Apache version 2.2.9
PHP version 5.2.6
MySQL version 5.0.45-community-log
Architecture x86_64
Operating system Linux

I set the plugin folder back to 755 to see if I could hear the audio, which I remember I could in 1.2 RC2. When to the backend and could see picture as well. Activated for Registration process and it all looks fine in the front end.

The one thing that is different from before I started troubleshooting (I think the only thing) is that with Bluehost you can go to a PHP Config and select your version. It was set to use 4, am now using 5.

So PHP5 and permissions set to 755 (not 775) seems to be my solution.

Just for the record.

I had a similar problem with no image or sound after reinstalling my site after it was hacked. In my attempts to tighten security on my site I installed the Protect Configuration component that allows you to rename and relocate your configuration file outside of your public html directory. I also upgraded to the latest Captcha version.

After some trial and error, I found I had to install Captcha after I had relocated and renamed the configuration.php file, then everything works great.

Joomla 1.0.15
CB 1.2 RC 3
Captcha 2.2 2

Hope this saves someone else some time,

Ed

Problem:
Captcha 2.2.1's image not display (and audio not work)

What I did:
$mosConfig_session_type = '0' changed to $mosConfig_session_type = 'none'; (also, '1', 'NONE')

Quick Notes:
Joomla 1.0.15 & CB 1.2 RC3.

The captcha parameters look fine. GD2 (bundled - 2.0.34 campatible).

SEF Service Map is installed, but this shouldn't cause any problems?!

No SEF extensions installed.
