Checking email blank screen

Checking email blank screen was created by filterit

Joomla 1.5.6 (on closed system, will be going to 1.5.7)
CB 1.2 RC3
When the email checking kicks in on register new user, I get the checking ooooo
Then it just flips to a blank screen with the page loading spinner in the browser and hangs there.
any ideas?

I get this with issue with both the username & email AJAX checker with Chrome & Firefox3, but with IE7 it works as expected. I have disabled it for now until I can schedule an outage to do more testing. I'm using sh404SEF, but not sure if this is relavent.

Now it seems to be check okay, presume it was something on the server. But I get this strange message now
no administrator/This email address seems valid.
