manually installing plugins and languages

14 years 7 months ago #109424 by dennern
I'm using community for a new site that I'm developing for a client.
A huge problem I've run into is that for some reason I've had a lot of problems with the host and installing components, modules etc.

When I try to install plugins and languages using CD Plugin Manager I get the following error:

Upload showPlugins - Upload Failed
ERROR: Could not find an XML setup file in the package.
[ Continue ... ]
Upload showPlugins - Failed
Installation file not found:
/hsphere/local/home/via4you/via4u.dk/v2/media/install_4a96600c7685c/
[ Continue ... ]

This is why I'm asking if there is a way to install the plugins/languages manually by simply FTPing the content to their correct paths.

The plugins I'm tryig to install are:
Fireboard
Adsmanager
Eventlist
SOBI2

and the Danish Language pack

*A thing that just occured to me is that some of the plugins sat "1_1" ex. (cb.fireboard_1_1.zip) does this mean that Community Builder 1.2 can't use them?

BTW... I'm using Joomla 1.5 in legacy mode and Community Builder 1.2.1

if you are using CB Plugin Manager to install CB Language plugin and you are getting the message you posted, then there is smething wrong with the language plugin you have.

So check if in fact there is an XML file in the language zip package.

You can use CB 1.1 language packs on CB 1.2.1 installations, however you most likely will be missing translation strings.

There is a forum area for CB 1.2 language plugins you should visit and study.

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the language pack.
It does contain an XML file containing the following:

[code:1]<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>
<cbinstall version="1.0" type="plugin" group="language">
<name>Danish</name>
<author>Danish Translation Project</author>

<license>www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.html GNU/GPL version 2
<authorEmail>beat@joomlapolis.com
<authorUrl>www.joomlapolis.com
<version>1.2 RC 2</version>
<description>Dansk oversættelse af Community Builders hovedfunktioner</description>
<files>
<filename plugin="danish">danish.php</filename>
<filename>index.html</filename>
<filename>cbteamplugins_language.php</filename>
<filename>calendar-locals.js</filename>
<filename>images/index.html</filename>
<filename>images/nophoto.jpg</filename>
<filename>images/pendphoto.jpg</filename>

<filename>images/tnpendphoto.jpg</filename>
</files>
<params>
</params>
<database>
</database>
</cbinstall>[/code:1]

Is there no way to install it manually?

Hi, I came into the same trouble recently adn as it seems to work on my localhost but not on the real website (the language plugin installation), I guess it is a problem of your server safe setting - I know that my provider has the Safe Mode set to ON all the time which unfortunately causes troubles with the installation (sometimes not always)

My procedure for manual installation of language packs was:

1) Install the language packs on localhost (using Plugin Installation from CB menu)
2) Search for the latest created files in your localhost www folder and upload these files into the same place on your website (you find out that you can manually upload your language folders firectly into the website into the folder components/com_comprofiler/plugin/language/)
3) To see them in the component list in CB and to be able to work with the languages in your CB backend, you have to import your database values from localhost to website. For me the export/import did not work so I had to create the database fields on my website manually which btw. takes 2 minutes or so...

Hope this helps
