Why supporting a cms that's dead

Why is Community Builder still supporting Mambo? The last release of Mambo dates from september 2008. I consider this cms dead. (Though it has never been official)
Even Joomla 1.0 has reached end of life three years ago.

Doesn't support for these old versions create unwanted extra lines of code in the component and makes it more bloated than necesary?

Wat are the reasons for this?

You'd be surprised how many people still use Mambo.
