CB 1.9 email as username

I want to not show any usernames on my site. People will register/login with their e-mail and the site will show their real name everywhere
I am sure I did this on a CB 1.7 once.

What I have done:

1. Configuration - General, changed the name format to Name Only
2. Configuration - General, changed the Login field type to Email
3. Configuration - Profile, changed username to "No" (can not change)
4. Field management - Username, changed Required to No, Display field in profile No and how at registration No.

When registering a new user, the website gives the error "Enter a valid username...."

I can not remember what I am missing. All I see is a forumpost from 4 years ago, describing what I did above in CB 1.2
Any suggestions???

Joomla: 2.5.16
PHP: 5.3.25
CB: 1.9.1

anyone has a solution for this problem ?

I'm looking for a solution for my cb 1.9.1 installation too. I would not go for an upgrade of the component but I would like to know if there is a legacy solution before going for a code hacking or some sort of plugin on registration
