Is it possible to allow users to recover a password only, but not to recover a username? (may improve security as username is one more thing for a brute force hacker to try to guess)

It's an interesting request. Right now you would need an URLĀ blocking extension to disallow this (but you would need to do it for Joomla's username recovery too).
Thus, imho, you would need to have that feature implemented in Joomla first for it to be effective.
