Dumb login set up question

Hi I have not been setting up sites in a while . I know this is dumb but after hours trying to catch myself on this newbie question I officially give in

I set a menu item to com_profiler as required
Clicked I get:
Please log in or register to view or modify your profile.

So how do I set it up to alog client in like on this site

The menu item tries to take you to your profile.
It should remain Public but be placed on a user menu (which is published for registered members).
