Private Messaging

Hello,

Are there any plans to create a CB plugin that rivals Jomsocial Private Messaging, because frankly their PM system is fantastic.

I know uddeim is used and I have used the premium additions for uddeim for many years on CB and non CB sites.

No disrespect to the developer of uddeim but my personal feeling is the uddeim extension gets limited support, it is buggy in the backend and it doesn't move with the times.

This is what inspired me to post here, in the below image you can see the JooSocial New Message and specifically the Add Recipient(s) popup that not only shows a list of friends but also popups a small window on each as you mouse over them.

I prefer the system we use now. I was a customer of Jomsocial and some of those 'neat' features come with sluggish results. Once you have more than 25 people online at the same time, it is not a graceful degradation.

You can do a lot with templates and UddeIM.

Here is how I laid out our message area.



I think you could have images displayed in the 'users' or 'connections' listing if you wanted. I just use drop down names.

I appreciate your comments and it's nice to know JomSocial is/had possibly performance issues when loaded, certainly something I will watch out for should I decide to migrate in that direction.

My comments are partly about continuing with uddeim, for example with the premium plugins there is an issue with selecting all posts in the moderation section and a while ago the uddeim developer replied with No to someones question about having a popup for new messages, now I know that is possible because I hacked an old CB site of mine to do this and I am by no means a coder.

So my thoughts are about taking a look at the situation, maybe the CB dev's and uddeim dev improve the situation between them in some way. who knows!

For me this is about as good as it gets for messaging in CB with uddeim, I just don't see this as modern.

To be fair, if the toolbar is not required then it does look better for the end user.
