I just found the solution. You have to use the database.php file from 1.04 for now. forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,26506.0.html

We will discuss this particularly enoying problem with core Joomla dev team and issue a fix soon if appropriate (it depends on core team decision on fixes on Joomla 1.0.5 (other bugs appeared in 1.0.5)).
