You or a developer must have changed things ("source code hack") inside CB code in your previous version, maybe without taking a note of it, as nothing regarding this has fundamentally changed in CB (except code-cleanup without change of function or API compatibility).

Neither previous version, nor this one allow to disable CB registration, while leaving joomla registration ON.

To disable CB registration:
1) disable Joomla registration
2) CB -> General settings -> Registration -> "Same as joomla" + save

I guess your best bet is to get YOUR previous installation from backup, and compare with previous genuine version of CB 1.2.1 (if it's that one that you had), then redo or ask a developer to redo the changes in CB 1.2.2.
