I installed the latest build, then am not sure how to have SEO URLs as you described. Existing group URLs look the same as before, so does new group's.

SEO URLs for GJ are available in its latest build 3.0.1+build.2016.12.28.00.17.38.724096a92. CB also needs to be up to date. Simply turn on SEF and it'll also rewrite GJs URLs (nothing needs to be configured in GJ or CB for this).

I see GJ SEF urls only if I turn off sh404 sef, I purged the sh404 URLs but it doesn't seem to help.
Any recommendation to keep both GJ SEF and sh404?

Can't help you with sh404sef. We only use Joomla SEF. We've properly supplied the router.php file which is responsible for rewriting the URLs and fires the trigger that plugins act on to rewrite their URLs.

Changing the sh404sef config, comprofiler to use joomla router, seems to solve it.
